My Approach

My Approach

My approach is grounded in relational and psychodynamic frameworks, along with advanced training in Self-in-Relation Psychotherapy (SIRP). I seek to understand your inner world in a deep, immersive way—so that together we can begin to uncover the roots beneath the symptoms.

I see therapy as a collaborative process we move through together, side by side, rather than position myself as an expert. No one knows your experiences better than you! I hold our therapeutic relationship with deep care and reverence, and I show up as my full, human self—something clients often say helps them feel safe and seen.

In addition to helping individuals build self-awareness and compassion as well as move through the world more authentically, I’m very passionate about working with couples. I love to help partners better understand their own and each other’s inner worlds—how past wounds and experiences shape their present relationship. When couples can make sense of these dynamics together, they’re more able to interrupt painful feedback loops and build stronger communication, empathy, and connection.

If you feel ready to begin a deeper, healing exploration, I invite you to reach out to book a  free consultation.

Bracken, a wild and resilient fern, often symbolizes what is hidden, protected, or overlooked—much like the parts of ourselves
we keep out of view.

About Bracken & Bloom

At Bracken & Bloom, therapy is an invitation to deepen your understanding of yourself—how past experiences shape the way you relate to others, how long-held patterns take root, and how those patterns may no longer serve you. Rooted in relational and psychodynamic theory, this work gently explores what lies beneath the surface: the stories we carry, the strategies we've learned to protect ourselves, and the quieter parts of us that often go unheard.

Whether you're coming as an individual, as part of a couple, or seeking support for a child or teen, therapy here is centered on connection—within the therapeutic relationship, and within yourself. With care and attunement, we work together to make sense of what's felt confusing or stuck.

For couples, that may mean learning to see each other more clearly, understanding how old wounds show up in the present, and finding new ways to stay connected through challenge. With younger clients, the process begins with a conversation with caregivers to understand the context and support collaboration—while holding the child as the primary client. Therapy then becomes a space where the young person can feel safe, respected, and gently supported in making sense of their own inner world.

At its heart, this kind of therapy isn’t about quick fixes. It’s about growing self-awareness and self-compassion, and moving through the world in a way that feels more grounded, spacious, and true to who you are—or who you're becoming.

About Claire

My name is Claire Doherty. I hold a BA with Honours in Psychology and a B.Ed. from the University of Ottawa, as well as a Master’s with Honours in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I’m a Registered Psychotherapist in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).

Before becoming a therapist, I spent a decade as an elementary and middle school teacher, both in Canada and overseas. Being an educator taught me so much about connection, attunement, empathy, and the complexity of relational dynamics. Over time, I realized it was these aspects of my job that most deeply excited me—and ultimately, they’re what led me to pursue a new path in psychotherapy.
